I’m a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist studying music at UNC Greensboro (violin concentration) and writing/recording on the side. I began studying violin and piano at age five and progressively picked up mandolin, guitar, banjo, drums, and bass. I began playing guitar because I wanted an instrument on which I could write and perform songs and piano wasn’t cutting it for me. I quickly became adept enough to help lead contemporary praise music at church and much of my musical effort has been towards that genre.
Because I play many instruments, I’ve performed with many types of groups. These range from first violin in symphony orchestra to drummer in a Caedmon’s Call cover band. At college I’ve teamed up with piano performance major Paul Stern who happens to play Celtic flute, penny whistle, and mountain harp. This has added a lush support for my Martin guitar and adequate voice.
I have been writing music for church, camp, retreats, and myself for half a dozen years, but I didn’t begin recording till 2004. I got tired of playing several instruments and never hearing them layered over top of one another. So, the album "more than pretty" is the product of a year and a half throwing away everything that sounded bad and trying to learn how to do it correctly. It was frustrating at times because many tracks were recorded in a dorm room with air-conditioning units directly outside and deafening halo players next door. But I finished, and I’m pleased with the result.
These days I’m still studying music at UNCG, still writing, still recording. Being a Music Major with intense time constraints, I’ve played a minimal number of gigs.
As always, however, I hope to perform more very soon. If you like what you hear, check out my latest recordings updated regularly at https://www.tradebit.com or https://www.tradebit.com or https://www.tradebit.com
