Burning Truth reaches beyond conventional boundaries of music and dance. Terry and Tamara bring the music alive with energized vocals, instrumentation, and dynamic displays of fire and fabrics.
Terry Phillips is the musical force revealed through Burning Truth. He plays original acoustic/electric folk music with alchemical mixes of guitar and lyrics; singing stories of struggle, triumph and realization. Terry engineered all the recordings on their debut CD "Ancient Secrets Revealed", producing a fresh, spicy sound.
Tamara’s djembe brings a tribal backbeat of deep rich tones. She adds accents with her voice, tambourine, maracas, and coins and bells. Her fire performances entrance audiences. The fire dance is derived from the ancient art of Poi, traditional to the Maori of New Zealand. Spinning silks are a beautiful variation on poi, great for day time performances like parades and are also used for certain indoor venues. Combinations of dance and music are crafted to fit each event.
Our mission is to awaken the child spirit through inspirational music and dance. We set out to be playful, provoking thought, movement and awakening, sparking the tender inner-fires in all of us.
On this debut CD, Rob Arita, a long-time friend and true kindred spirit, showcases his fantastical abilities on mandolin, ukulele, and acoustic guitar. Tamara Cummings plays solid djembe beats and adds vocal accents. All tracks were recorded in "real time" by Terry on a Roland BR1600 in the back room of their cabin in the small coastal town of Seal Rock, Oregon. The exception is "Comin’ Round The Mountain", which was recorded earlier in Missoula, MT - one of their very first recordings. Post production mastering was done by Discmakers for professional quality and sound. These guys rock! This is music made by real people tapping into the depths of their souls in order to break free of the daily grind.
