Kate Hathaway is an entertainer and a poet. In any music scene each is valuable and relatively easy to come by, though entertainers tend toward ubiquity and poets toward obscurity. Seldom is a musical performer capable of unifying the two personae; even more rarely is a performer capable of unifying the two with the natural and seemingly effortless, deft grace Kate brings to her performance and songwriting.

Kate began playing her first shows during her senior year in high school, and, upon moving to Urbana-Champaign in 2002, has been regularly performing and touring both regionally and from Chicago to Austin. Sharing the stage with Fastball, Antigone Rising, Rockit Girl (Veruca Salt’s Gina Crosley), Danni Leigh, Rachael Sage, Mecca Normal, Angie Heaton, Brandon T. Washington, Cameron McGill, Lorenzo Goetz and many others, and being involved in Urbana-Champaign’s local
music scene has’ she says, "helped inspire my continually-evolving songwriting and performances."

A typical Kate Hathaway set displays the wide-ranging palette of her talent: a breadth of personalities and emotions, elated and mournful, brooding, sexual, angry, reflective... realized with an awareness and dynamic entirely her own. Her songs are equally varied-muses on love and seduction, self-discovery and loss.

Amidst the many artists Kate has played and shared music with, and the diverse range of her songs, the strength of her performances remains unique-comments about the intensity of her shows are frequent. "Playing the song with less emotion and less strength... changes the song, and can even ruin it. I try to perform what the song is, in order to better convey the meaning to the audience."

Kate’s style and musical presence evolves and grows as she continues to write and perform new songs. In addition to her independently-released 2003 EP one two three, her song "Uncomfortable," released on Emergence, a Green Street Records compilation, as well as "Red Eyed Toad" on an Openingbands compilation, Kate recently finished her first full length titled "Sprout Don’t Pout" which was released JUNE 25th, 2005, with Andy Lund at Good Wood, Mark Rubel at Pogo Studio, both located in Champaign, IL, as well as Kent Stump at Crystal Clear Sound in Dallas, TX, and she currently worked with writer/producer Mark Roberts(CBS’s "Two and a Half Men") on his play "Welcome To Tolono".
