Kathryn Claire began singing, playing and writing music at an early age. She was influenced by her grandfather, a gypsy-swing and jazz violinist and her mother a music teacher and musician. There was always music in her life. She began studying the violin at age 7, voice at age 14, When she was 16, she started teaching herself the guitar and began playing and writing her own music. Since then, Kathryn has continued to write, perform, record and produce music as a solo artist and with many other musicians. She has lived on both the east and west coasts and has frequently performed on city streets in Boston, New York, Chicago, and around the North west. In 2000, Kathryn produced and released her first solo album self titled Kathryn Claire. Kathryn began playing the Irish and old time fiddle while living on the Oregon coast in 2002. In January 2003 she joined Eugene based Irish Band, Toad in the Hole. Kathryn recorded with Toad in the Hole in 2003 for their release Alleyway Rover. This past spring, Kathryn graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in visual art. She wrote and recorded Medea’s Daughter for her senior thesis, a composition for violin, cello and voice which was performed at the University of Oregon. Kathryn Claire has performed at the Stormy Weather Arts Festival (2001, 2002, 2004), Willamette Valley folk festival (2003), The Oregon Country Fair (2004), Song Writer’s Expo in Astoria, OR (2004) Faiery Worlds Festival (2004) and the Yachats Celtic festival (2004). Kathryn Claire also performs in the schools and teaches private fiddle lessons. Kathryn Claire has finished her second release titled Wanderer. The album is a collection of original travel and love songs. Kathryn’s eclectic musical background and her love of folk music is apparent on the Wanderer album. She is joined by 11 musicians all of whom have influenced her as a musician and writer. Kathryn Claire enjoys producing her work and collaborating with others. Recently, she founded her own production company, LunaSea Arts. LunaSea Arts is dedicated to supporting and promoting folk music, art, dance and performance as a vehicle for social interaction, cultural preservation and humanity. Kathryn’s commitment to her craft and her love of performing make for a dynamic and engaging experience.
