XENOVIBES[FOREIGN+EXPRESSIONS]
is the brainchild of Australian born Singapore show designer, Shueh-li Ong, who coined the word to explain her work as an instrument builder, composer, performer and producer.
Not to be mistaken for just a chick singer, this multi-instrumentalist boldly fuses the sounds of the Chinese GuQin, the Russian theremin, extended synthesizer techniques, the tin-whistle and countless other magical sounds to evoke her signature siren songs.

Besides being known for creating works with a distinctive style, Shueh-li is also recognized as an exponent of the theremin; she chose to study this instrument that is played by shaping precision hand movements in front of two antennas without touching it, and not use it as a gimic effect.

EXPERIMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF NEW MUSIC â EAST, WEST, ARCANE, NEW TECH.
Shueh-li was born in Melbourne, Australia and received a Bachelor in Music at the Elder Conservatory studying piano with Stefan Ammer (formerly Professor of Piano at the Freiburg Academy of Music, Germany) and Music Technology under Tristram Cary (founder of the electronic music studio at the Royal College of Music LDN). This was followed by post-graduate studies in Interactive Multimedia Performance under Dr Jeff Pressing at LaTrobe University, Melbourne.

Shueh-liâs trademark is in the way she puts her âsoundâ together, using her instruments (east, west, arcane, classical and new technology) and her intimate knowledge of its building blocks.

SINGAPOREâS 1ST AND ONLY DIVA OF THE THEREMIN
âSingaporeâs 1st and only diva of the thereminâ (Straits Times Singapore) and Moog international artist Shueh-li, is currently in America with the concert version of Xenovibes and on a visa awarded only to âArtists of Extraordinary Abilityâ.
Joining her as the performing core of XV USA is aforementioned Yamaha e-drummer John, who having caught the Xenovibes bug after being part of the premier at the Old Parliament House (Singapore 2004), cites more vivid musical creations as a good reason to remain "Xenovibed".

XV I - XV II
Whilst XV I was the starting point for Shueh-li to document some of her work sensibilities, XV II celebrates the diverse musical cultures that have given us so many wonderful styles in the form of song, dance and film music. âMusic From Another Land - XV IIâ also celebrates live performance in the spirit of music making. Besides loads of of theremin playing for the theremin-fanatics out there, Shueh-li has tried to capture the nuances embodied in the drumming of John Anthony Martinez, while making XV II the album that showcases her virtuosic synthesizer performance styles and her sensitivities to musical genres not already exposed in XV I.
