Rain is a remarkable event. Yes, there are those destructive storms and floods that give rain a bad name, but most of the time rain is a welcomed relief from dryness, a needed resource for growth, or simply just fun. So much beauty around us depends on the rain. Rivers depend on rain falling somewhere. Whether the barely-a-trickle dry washes of our Southern California home, or the mightiest of rivers like the Mekong, MacKenzie, or Mississippi, every river starts with rain or snow falling in higher elevations, charging great aquifers with precious water. Where water flows in rivers it brings life. Therefore the life force of several rivers is celebrated in this collection.
When one stands on the shores of a great river there is an inexorable pull to either travel up to it’s source or down to it’s terminus. Something draws us to a river -- it is a source, a highway, or maybe just a good mystery needing to be solved.
Yet there is more to it than that. There is a spiritual draw in each of us to find a life source, to dance in the rain, as it were. Inside us there is a hope that we can connect spiritually; not just connect, but discover life and destiny. So then, this collection is ultimately about hope. We hope to connect spiritually, that is true. But beyond the veil of what we see around us is a realm of spirit that holds great hope that it might connect with us. Spiritual life is far more than becoming a spiritual person, exploring spiritual gifting, or gaining significant spiritual power. There is a level of relationship in the spirit that transcends all of that. Herein is hope. Reach out for the transcendent place where your spirit engages the realms of the spirit on a relational level. There you will find that your hope is realized, and so is the hope that resides in the realm of the spirit itself.
