Weitere Informationen vom Distributor:
When Ted was growing up long ago, he played guitar as a teenager. He longed to write songs but had no idea how to get started. But Ted still loved music and the lack of knowledge did not seem to matter. Back in the late 60’s, Ted played a Martin D12-35. He covered songs by Donovan, Leonard Cohen, the Byrds and Bob Dylan.

In 2000, Ted started playing fiddle, no doubt as part of his midlife crisis. Unless you buy 16th century Italian fiddles, generally they’re cheaper than sports cars. After making sounds like a wet cat screeching for about six months, Ted found a Suzuki method teacher and started learning classical violin. Whether or not you like the music, classical training provides a large array of techniques, a musician’s toolbox - sort of - to apply to any kind of music. Ted also discovered that playing violin made all music seem a lot less mysterious.

During the summer of 2002, Ted attended Old Time Week at the Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, NC. There he spent some time with Skip Gorman singing old cowboy songs. Within a week of this workshop, Ted wrote the song "Second Childhood." Other songs followed and this idea for this CD was born. With classical training in violin, the apparent mystery of how music was structured disappeared and Ted wrote many songs. He also became proficient on guitar, harmonica, pennywhistle and bongo drums. These instruments all appear in this CD.

"Born Ready" is the first cut, a song about feeling powerful and in control of life. "Puppy love in the Dust Bowl" is a bittersweet ballad about young love that never blossomed. The song was inspired by Kay Wischkaemper, a friend whose father grew up in the Dust Bowl and noticed children disappearing from the school bus as their families packed up and move to California. Much later, in L.A., Kay’s father recognized his waitress at a coffee shop as one of the little girls from the school bus. "Crucified by Time" is both a love song and a diatribe about the brevity of life. "Second Childhood" is a love song to Betsy, Ted’s wife of 26 years. "Saving Jackson" is a ballad about an old boyfriend. Women know that some guys make better husbands and some guys make better boyfriends. Jackson was definitely a better boyfriend. The song is from the point of view of a woman who knows she would be better off without Jackson in her life, but having him with her is too sweet to resist. "Coffee" is a humorous song about Ted’s favorite beverage. "Where Does It Stop" is a dark poem about longing and obsession. "Swimming" is a happy little song about Ted’s favorite form of exercise. "Swimming" is dedicated to Ezra Manley, a lifeguard at the MLK Natatorium in Atlanta. "Pretty Woman Big Strong Man" is a calypso-flavored ditty about the choices lovers make as they decide to get together. "Atlanta Commuting Blues," well, the title is self-explanatory. This last song has been used on WRFG on Tuesday’s Good Morning Blues as a lead-in to BlackJack and A.J.’s traffic report. There’s also a surprise on the CD.

Ted has a number of creative activities going on. You can learn more about him at his website https://www.tradebit.com. Song lyrics are also on this website.
