Hey what’s up? I named this album Libra Times because that was the time of year I really started making beats and songs again. When the sun was in the astrological sign of libra I noticed a pattern of beats and songs production increasing for several years in a row. Most of the songs on this album were worked on extensively during the sun sign of Libra. I’m not a Libra by the way...I’m a aries/taurus cusp, we’ll rap about that some other time.
Last Chance: So let me describe why you have these tracks to listen to. Over the years I’ve noticed that I make a song kind of taunting the fans to pay attention to what I’m doing because once I’m gone I’m gone. Last Chance is that song for this album. I believe that you should take this opportunity to listen to my artwork and appreciate what I’m doing for you. I’ll have to list the lyrics... but off the top my head my songs are a form of self-reflection.
The Mash is the clutch. That game winning shooter. The difference between teams of people that come close and those who win the whole championship. That’s how I feel about myself and what’s important. I notice prettier people and almost good artist get a lot of props, but an emcee that can really blast with poetic knowledge has to Mash everybody to get recognition.
Libra Times: as described above, this was one of my favorites for the album because I was doing this new flow style that I created. This is one of my signature flow songs especially the opening verse. I really love that start..."Chomp on the good wood, stood above the others, brothers jump like the track was trump..."
The Bighter: I made two or more variations of this song and decided I liked this one most because of the energy. Often times I create something and I hear others doing it more famous than me. I still believe LL stole boomin’ system from my song "def cars". But that’s just some ol’ personal thing. But anyway back to this song. I just called it the bighter as a bit of sarcasm....I ain’t no bighter. I like Jay-z but all my punch lines aren’t some other famous rappers. My ish is original!
Gate keeper: I like this song alot but the production just doesn’t reflect the true genious this song is. Gatekeeper is that person that stands between you and your musical career goals. Hiding your demos, lying, just all around making it hard for you to suceed at what you love. In other words...(hater, cock blocker, insecure, jealous, back stabber) You get the picture.
Just cause I rock: braggadocious, just liked it.
Break Away: Just wanted to rhyme a different style with not too much music. I really like the suttle music in the background. Just an episode in the life of Johnny Afro...trying to break away from this mediocre life I’m living.
A Team: For those who wanna ride with the people really doing it. Why roll with fronters and fakers. Inspired by Chubb Rock’s Treat me right. Actually wrote the lyrics to that instrumental and rapped them over my instrumental The Team and named the song. A Team, beat named Team cause it just seemed like a winning unbeatable team. Especially the electro retro bassline.
Reach For The Cookie Plate: Just wanted to see if I could pick an obscure subject and write a legit song about it. Tends toward the abstract. You’ll figure it out.
Tunes: This has got to be the most creative endeavor on this cd. On various cd’s I grap vocal snippets and try to make sentences out of them. The rappers on this track are not actually saying what you hear. Words were chopped up and edited and mixed around until I came up with something that made some sense. If you actually listen to the rappers they don’t make any sense at all. Funny huh. I created this song so it wouldn’t have my oh so familiar voice on it when I submitted it to club dj’s. I felt that I was sort of black balled for the sound of my voice with some dj’s. This song was to sneak through the cracks and get the play and exposure I wanted. Dedicated the song to Jazzy C the former dj of Toon’s night club. But I didn’t know Toon’s was spelled for cartoons and my song is thus named Tunes for what I thought the club was. Currently I don’t associate with that night club because the manager played me for a punk... That’s another story...
