GLOBALINGUA Studio Voodoo’s STEREO CD recreates sound environments from around the world, from Swahili bonfires through operatic reveries to flamenco passion plays, woven together by a chord of heart-throbbing techno-tribal beats. Within Studio Voodoos music is embedded the unification of diverse cultures in a sound Mraz calls the "ancient future". Each mix, or "ear play", celebrates the ultimate ceremony and sacrifice of life. In contrast to other major recording artists who have re-mixed their stereo recordings into the 5.1 channel format, Studio Voodoos premiere self-titled CD is recorded using DTS Entertainment’s ground breaking 6.1 Extended Surround format, which emanates seven discrete audio channels, fully immersing listeners in a three-dimensional audio experience. Studio Voodoo is convinced that surround sound is here to stay. "The difference between surround and stereo is staggering" says Mraz. "The listening experience is so far beyond stereo, my old CDs are just gathering dust." Adds Price, "We love introducing people to surround. Their response is always immediate. We know it will change the way they listen to music forever."

Studio Voodoo creates a sound experience that defies categorization. In contrast to other major recording artists who have re-mixed their stereo recordings into the 5.1 channel format, Studio Voodoos premiere self-titled CD is recorded solely for surround sound, labeled by industry insiders as "the audio format of the future." Recently signed by surround sound pioneers DTS Entertainment, Studio Voodoo is the first group to release an entire album in DTSs ground breaking 6.1 Extended Surround format, which emanates seven discrete audio channels, fully immersing listeners in a three-dimensional audio experience. With the relatively recent emergence of the CD and DVD formats and the proliferation of home surround sound music systems, it has become, for the first time, commercially feasible for artists to record, and consumers to playback, multiple audio channels. Band members Koz Mraz and Ted Price were initially inspired to work "beyond stereo" after attending a surround sound seminar in 1998. Says Price, "we always envisioned our music in three dimensions and in the recording process used the existing technology to give our stereo mixes the illusion of more depth. When we learned more about surround sound, it was an easy choice to dedicate ourselves completely to the medium." The decision to record in DTS 6.1 Extended Surround was made in 1999, as the format was being previewed by DTS. Says Mraz, "For us, having a discrete center rear channel made a huge difference in the quality of the surround experience. Once we tried it ourselves, the choice was obvious." Subsequently, in 1999 the duo released the worlds first music recording in DTS Extended Surround, the track "Fire" which is included on their new CD. Studio Voodoos self-titled CD recreates sound environments from around the world, from Swahili bonfires through operatic reveries to flamenco passion plays, woven together by a chord of heart-throbbing techno-tribal beats. Within Studio Voodoos music is embedded the unification of diverse cultures in a sound Mraz calls the "ancient future". Each mix, or "ear play", celebrates the ultimate ceremony and sacrifice of life. Mike Simpson (Dust Brothers), producer of such artists as Beck and Carlos Santana says "this mix rips your head open!" Stewart Copeland (The Police) states that "Studio Voodoo is in my personal top ten playlist." His own field recordings of African tribal chants can be heard on the final mix of the track "Fire." Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails) says, "slamming groove, cool vibe, monster mix. This is the future of music." Studio Voodoo is convinced that surround sound is here to stay. "The difference between surround and stereo is staggering" says Mraz. "The listening experience is so far beyond stereo, my old CDs are just gathering dust."
