Randy started playing guitar and traveling at a young age. Taking the Greyhound bus cross-country nine times, the train six times and driving too many times to count, he has been to all the United States except Alaska in his life.

Starting with street corners he found out that he could get a little extra money while on the road by busking. The response encouraged him to try his hand at making a career out of music and travel. After a few years he moved up from street corners to bars and clubs.


He headed back to his native North Carolina to record his first CD in the winter of 2000. Recorded in Carborro, So It Goes, Randy’s first CD was put together with help from his friends Jason Marshall and Eck McCanless. Between the three they played all the instruments on the record. Jessie Ollie served as an engineer on the project. It is a an ambitious recording covering many different styles. The constant theme of Randy’s lyrics from personal experiences bind it all together.

Randy hit the road for a tour across the U.S. in the Winter/Spring of 2002. Playing at clubs in Alabama, Texas, California, and even Hawaii He managed to sell a 1000 copies of his CD to folks around the country. He has put together a new band called the "Grits", and plans on returning to the studio in December to record a follow up to So It Goes. Randy Whitt and the Grits will be on tour next year.
