"Some Questions About Fish"
With his sharp wit and keen eye for the absurd, Australian singer/songwriter Tony Wellington has crafted a compelling album of intelligent, humorous, original acoustic music.
On this album one can find songs about:
- falling pregnant (On Hearing The Big News)
- wacko religious cults (The Rapture)
- the stupid names they give to motor cars (The Motor Car Song)
- the computer age (Microsoft World)
- mid-life crises (Things That Go Bump In The Night)
- the new age scene (Inspired)
- depression (Black Dog)
- parenting toddlers (Go To Sleep, Corey)
- high school reunions (The Reunion)
and of course there those pressing questions about fish!
In fact the album has only one estwhile love song, Vive La Differance, a lively blues about individual differences in relationships.
In the tradition of Loudon Wainwright III, Christine Lavin, Eric Bogle, etc, Tony’s songs are highly entertaining, literate, and personal in a revelatory way.
Tony is a finalist in The Australian Songwriter’s Association National Songwriting Contest.
On Some Questions About Fish Tony has kept the arrangements clean and uncluttered, allowing the clever lyrics to work their appeal. He is backed by one of Australia’s leading double bass players, Jonathan Zwartz, with flourishes from guitar wizard Steve Mann.
Tony lives and works out of Noosa on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, an internationally reknown tourist destination noted for its natural beauty and one of the finest point breaks on the planet (you guessed it, Tony is a mad surfer!). As well as being a songwriter, Tony is a professional artist. (See his web site https://www.tradebit.com - for a look at his finely detailed, technically masterfull, quirky super-realist paintings.) He has also run folk clubs and a monthly concert venue expressly for singer/songwriters in Sydney. And he has written for national music magazines.
Tony spent 17 years working in the film industry as a scriptwriter, director and a first assistant director on films such as "Dead Calm". He has had his directing work invited to international film festivals, and he has lectured in film at Charles Sturt University and The Australian Film Television and Radio School. He has also co-authored a book on Australian film-making entitled "Don’t Shoot The Best Boy!"
These days however, he concentrates on painting and music. Tony continues to perform around the traps.
If you find Top 40 music nauseatingly cliched; if you like music that treats you with the maturity and intelligence you deserve; if you have an interest in contemporary singer/songwriting; if you find that too many people in the music business take themselves too seriously; if you believe that humor does have a place in music; try asking some questions about fish.
