Vera Deirdre contains a notion of depressed candle-lit ballrooms, or along its rougher edges, of sad smoke and brick blues-club basements. This notion does not over-present itself in the music; instead it appears vague, a mood that creeps in from the background to set the listener adrift...And on the album, she sound as if she’s sitting right next to you, on a chair in an empty room with a hardwood floor.
