The Transmission Trio is comprised of Colin Stetson (saxes, clarinets), Andrew Kitchen (drums), and Eric Perney (upright bass). Stetson recently performed on the David Letterman Show with Tom Waits, and both Stetson and Perney can be heard on Waits’ 2002 releases Alice and Blood Money. Colin Stetson has also recorded on several of Recloose’s albums, including the very well received 2002 release, Cardiology. They have played sold-out shows at NYC’s Knitting Factory, the Empty Bottle in Chicago, Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, the Majestic Theatre in Detroit, and all over the bay area including Storyville, Bruno’s, Luggage Store Gallery, Jupiter, and the Make-out https://www.tradebit.comy’ve shared stages with John Zorn, Medeski Martin and Wood, Fishbone, Don Byron, Dave Douglass, and Tim Berne.

Eric Perney has studied both classical and jazz bass playing at the University of Michigan with Stuart Sankey and Rodney Whitaker. Eric has studied improvisation with Fred Frith, Steve Rush, John Clayton, Joelle Leandre and Ed Sarath and has worked with Peter Kowald and Fareed Haque. Eric also plays in various musical projects in San Francisco ranging in style from jazz to Balkan music (the music of Eastern European countries such as Bulgaria and Croatia). You can also hear him on the title track of Tom Waits’ recent release Alice.


Bay Area percussionist Andrew Kitchen has been active as a performer for over 13 years. A Chicago native, he has studied in his hometown and Ann Arbor, MI. with Michael Udow, Gerald Cleaver, Julie Spencer, Stephen Rush, Joel Spencer, and others. While in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan School of Music he worked to further develop his powerful sense of rhythm and unique sound on the drumset, mixing influences from traditional musics and instruments of India, Japan, and China with contemporary 20th century chamber music from Japan and the https://www.tradebit.com addition to his work with the Transmission Trio, he can also be heard driving the San Francisco-based instrumental big-band behemoth Boostamonte, a hopped-up, stripped-down hip-hop/funk/Latin fusion big band led by trumpeter and composer Ara Anderson (which also includes Eric Perney on upright bass and Colin Stetson on baritone saxophone). Andrew can be heard on Transmission’s various grass-roots releases, and has also recorded music by Lou Harrison and Gernot Blume for Udow’s Equilibrium label. Some of his music written for the defunct Burns Bros. project can be found under the moniker Ozenfant on the London-based eclectica label Satellites and Clouds.


Colin Stetson grew up in Ann Arbor Mi., where he received a degree in saxophone performance from the University of Michigan Music School. He has studied with a wide variety of performers including Donald Sinta, Roscoe Mitchell, Fred Frith, and Henry Threadgill. Since moving to the bay area in 1998, Colin has performed regular solo concerts, as well as shows with the Transmission Trio and the avant-Balkan sextet Peoples Bizarre. In may of 2002, Colin performed on The Late Show with David Letterman with Tom Waits. He can be heard on Tom’s recent releases Alice and Blood Money as well as numerous albums of Recloose (planet e records) and Detroit based Larval (Knitting Factory Records). Two solo albums are on the way, to be released in March, and a CD of his composition will be featured in San Francisco based EM Magazine’s next literary release.
