"Mankind is a a full-bodied and intricate album with layer upon layer of sound, vision and masterful creativity."
This album is full of surprises, in other words, totally unpredictable. It is a union born of a variety of styles, drawn from a reserve of seemingly endless influences - everything from Pink Floyd, Air and Zero7 to 80’s Synth-Pop and a bit of Ragtime for good measure. This self released 2nd album defies the ever too common "sophomoric slump" with a final product that makes obvious their growth and evolution. Goes well with Beastie Boy’s "Intergalactic", The Cure’s "Pictures Of You" and Hot Club Of Cowtown’s "I Can’t Tame Wild Women."
This CD features original artwork by Dave Kinsey of BLK/MRKT who is well known for his unique urban style and who’s art can be seen in a variety of international advertising campaigns and galleries everywhere. Check out his stuff at https://www.tradebit.com and https://www.tradebit.com
Winner of 2001 San Diego Music Awards "Best Electronic" and nominated for "Best New Artist" and "Best Dance or Funk Album" for that year.
"So much about Say Hello suggests a studio group; that they’d be able to pull it off live seems unlikely. Surprisingly, the brief set at KUSI actually sounded better than the record."
--Scott Batiuk, SLAMM Magazine, on the 1st CD "Say Hello To Square Cirlce"
"Square Circle is one of those bands, where you go "Hmmm..." and then it hits you, totally original, hip and very different. We are super stoked to have their tunes on our site."
"Just when the lackluster of electronic euphoria is at an all out daze it’s a relief that among all the noise, fresh sounds of real time drums, deep bass guitar strums, dope turntable skids accompanied with old school quirky electronic sounds of the Moog are making way through ear canals of the world’s populace, as the eccentric yet original music making of San Diego based Square Circle are changing the landscape of "down tempo" to another plain."
--Evil Monito Magazine - Issue 008 - Fall 2001 - https://www.tradebit.com
"...Square Circle is quickly becoming a hit with fans and radio alike, proving they are anything but a studio band with their amazing live performances..."
"...Square Circle makes solid space-age funk and you should go get some..."
"...Square Circle kicked a**."
--Evil Radio Empire, referring to a show in 2001 with Scapegoat Wax
"Fortunately [Square Circle] strives to bend the rules and rewrite the unwritten laws." (3 1/2 out of 4 stars)
--San Diego Union Tribune, March 29th, 2001
"Square Circle’s arrival on the scene is a very, very welcome bit of electro-invention. " (4 out of 4 stars)
--Troy Johnson, SLAMM Magazine
"This is the sound that you’d think would have come from the Bohemian, subterranean artisans of Europe. A varied sound that further defines this new generation of music-makers."
