Hailed by Synchronicity Magazine, "Sora is a singer who knows what she can do with her voice and uses it to bring an almost operatic presence to each of her songs". No more apt phrase could be written to describe the appeal of Sora’s almost classical approach to nouveau folk and new age music. Sora’s richly melodic voice has entranced audiences in her native Calgary for years and breathes new life into the tried and true genre of folk.
Sora is currently working towards her second solo CD; to be entitled Flames of Love. Sora moves out of the traditional folk arena that defined her first album for this recording, writing her own deeply enticing songs that blur the lines between classical, folk and new age. Sora also will be performing at various venues in Calgary over the summer season.
Sora is an accomplished musician, having participated in numerous recordings. Most notably is her debut solo album entitled, Winds of Change that, according to Synchronicity Magazine "is an intriguing exploration of the human voice, and the diverse range of which it’s capable." Not only a vocalist, Sora is also a proficient violinist and pianist, having toured with The Calgary Fiddlers and recorded a number of albums with them including; Making New Tracks and Breaking Down the Barriers (under the name Andrea de Jong). Sora is no stranger to the arts scene having sung in the 2003 Broad Minds Production of Vinegar Tom, and performed at such venues as the Jack Singer Concert Hall with the Calgary Youth Orchestra. With songs featured on CBC radio programming, Sora truly fits comfortably in many genres.
Inspired by the idea of the four elements, Winds of Change and Flames of Love are meant to represent Air and Fire respectively in an ongoing project to capture the spirit of each element in song. Even in this, Sora maintains a unique perspective, refusing to become cliché in any genre. With songs of love, death and reverence, Sora examines the idea of fire in all its transformative guises.
Sora’s new album promises to be a soulful exploration of life, bridging the genres of folk, classical and new age to produce a new depth of sound and emotion.
