"SLINKER SOUNDS LIKE THE INCREDIBLE HULK HAVING SEX!"
That’s what a fan said recently of the New Jersey based band and their live show."This talent comes in handy having superhuman strength which is needed to stand out in the garden state." says Jay D, voice box and beat-up acoustic guitarist. Often compared to the melodic songwriting styles of Collective Soul, The Goo Goo Dolls and Brother Cain, the quartet is well known for its impressive group vocals and musicality. Best described as a diverse mix of rock, the wide appeal of the Jersey band continues to prove that the art of creating good rock music is not dead. Supporting the independently released 5-song EP "Fun for a girl and a Boy", SLINKER feels you should check out their tunes cause there are 2 things missing in this world: rhythm and melody.
"These guys kick ass!" Alan Tecchio- Writer, Steppin Out Magazine
North Jersey band Slinker, formally known as Killer Calypso, has maintained a noteworthy presence as a fixture on the local music circuit for the past four years. Often compared to the melodic songwriting styles of Collective Soul, The Goo Goo Dolls and Brother Cain, the quartet is well known for its impressive group vocals and musicality. Best described as a diverse mix of rock, the wide appeal of the Jersey band continues to prove that the art of creating good music is not dead, but merely manifesting itself within those who embrace it.
Band members Jason DeRuggiero (lead vocals, acoustic guitar and percussion), Brian Wagner (bass and vocals), Anthony Gimignani (guitar and vocals) and Chris Pelesky (drums and vocals) have set themselves apart from the norm. Jason’s unique voice resembles an angst-ridden, younger Phil Collins combined with the power and range of Chris Cornell. Coupled with Anthony’s colorful guitar phrasing and the airtight rhythm section of Brian and Chris, the collaboration of each member’s individual musicianship is what truly makes this unit inspiring.
In 1997, the group released an independent self-titled debut disc of five songs, produced by Machine (Pitch Shifter, Step Kings, Hed PE and recently rated 4 star Rolling Stone review of King Crimson). The recording was distributed to local radio stations, print media and other target markets within the bands regional area. Local print media and radio soon returned with outstanding reviews resulting in a flurry of calls inviting the group to perform at many corporate sponsored events and highly publicized local concerts. In the following years, Slinker has appeared in numerous outdoor festivals, charity events, featured showcases and more than a handful of competitions that eventually pushed the band into a position of local recognition.
As of late, the group is performing original shows throughout North and South Jersey, Pennsylvania and the New York metropolitan area. A new three-song disc is currently available as a preview for the forthcoming album, slated for a 2004 release.
