and here are some reviews . . .
this one from the NEW MUSIC EXPRESS sums it up nicely:
They might sing about sleaze, dancing alcoholics and rampant self-abuse, but SERIAL POP live up to their name. Though only if your idea of pop is less fluffy reality TV reject tip and more in the vein of Blur, New Order, Happy Mondays and the Streets.
This London-via-Edinbourgh crowd sound like a pub argument between all of the above. Hence we get dancable street tales, fragile romance and slabs of wayward rockism. Their snarling songs vary wildy between geezer dance, car alarm funk, and Albam-style guitar scratchiness, while elsewhere electro rhythms rub against punky guitars and funky jams get molested by crashing riffs, while singer George Mcfall deadpans like a beery philosopher. Hazy and attitude-pack, it’s a fine debut -- JIM ALEXANDER
this one from LOGO MAGAZINE is pretty good to:
Described by Steve Lamacq as ’Motorhead meets Erasure’ after hearing last years ’Fuck You Jack We’re Fireproof’ EP, Edinburgh via London quartet Serial P.O.P. give further clues to their oeuvre in their chosen moniker, and in the surname of George and Tom McFall, the brothers at the heart of the band. The apocalyptic sound-shaping of Lift To Experience is relayed with the laconic, detached eye of closet Mark E. Smith fans, while their take on electro is more bash than clash, stripping it down to its wild-assed basics and rebuilding it in the image of Suicide, Talking Heads and - deep breath - Heaven 17. They’re the Neanderthal missing link between counter-cultural cool and the pure, utopian stupidity of arena pop. There’s some kind of genius at work here. - CLIFF ROBERTS
