Scott Stein is a 22-year-old pianist, songwriter, and composer based in Columbus, Ohio. Currently a senior in Music Composition and Jewish Studies at The Ohio State University, the Akron-born piano man began writing songs almost immediately after he began studying piano at the ripe old age of 4. While in high school, Scott fronted a few rock bands, most notably Free Agent who released their self-titled, self-produced album in the spring of 2001. In the autumn of 2002, he released ’Road Songs’, a 5-song acoustic EP of new original material. Posted for free download via the internet, this small project was only a hint of things to come.
In the autumn of 2004, he released his first fully-produced solo project, a 6-song release entitled ’Temporary Romance’. The new disc spans a wealth of sounds and influences without the songwriter wearing too many of them - or his heart - on his sleeve. Culling from such diverse acts as Ben Folds, Oasis, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Neil Young, John Hiatt, and Randy Newman, Stein’s sharpened piano chops combine with finely crafted, introspective lyrics on the 6 original tracks. The new disc also reunites Scott with Free Agent drummer Dan Cohen and features players from two of the top blues bands in the Akron area - guitarist Ian Ross (Lucky 13 Band) and bassist Clint Walton (Howard Street Blues Band).
Stein is currently playing gigs as a solo artist as well as with the Scott Stein Band. He is also preparing to release a live album recorded from an intimate solo show in August of 2005.
