One Love and Light Reigns Supreme!!! Every time !!!!
Everywhere !!! Iniversaly!!

The music work is not a job is an adventure. Guaranteed !!!
Just get out of your town to play a little muzik some miles away from home, and you’ll
see. Music is a mission and not a competition and that’s also very clear in this story.
Native Elements, Baldread and Red I went to Todos los Santos, Baja California Sur, in
Mexico to headline the Third BCS Reggae Festival. This event happens in a very
special location, and the vibes of the place itself are irie to the max. It’s where the
Arroyo meets the Beach. Low dunes , the beach and the ocean face the stage, while
surfers, tourists, and locals from miles around come to enjoy a day of cool reggae
muzik and sun. When it turns dark, we can appreciate star galore, and the cool breeze
from the ocean to cool I down. Making it ideal weather for groovy, irie, full flavor
until ya drop dancing. Forward with the adventure. All musicians got there on friday
afternoon, got together with production crew, got into 3 SUVs and started the 2 hour
drive between the airport and Todos los Santos. Did I mention that it was raining hard ?,
I mean hard, like cats and dogs hard. We had a total of 15 people in our crew, plus
2 drivers and gear. After about 45 min of driving in a funky road, one of our SUVs
broke down. The one Red ended up driving. We pulled over, left the SUV parked in the
best place possible, and proceeded to pilled up in one of the other SUVs. We got
severally wet and it wasn’t warm either. But we have a sense of humor and nobody
complained. All the opposite. We decided that it was like being in a comedy of errors
movie, and laughed good and long. We got some assistance and left the gear with
production people. Sardine style for about one and a half hours, we reached our
destination. A couple of times we almost rolled over as we passed big puddles of
water and the SUV zigzagged across the road. Thanks to our experienced driver, was just
more fuel for more joking around. A warm reception, something to smoke , food and a
clean bed were a great aftermath of our little adventure. Everybody got settled for the
night, and the only worry in the air was the weather for the next day. If it was raining the
next day, a whole lot of changes had to happen. If it was sunny, the set up of the
location for the festival had to be done at light speed. No matter what, Saturday
promised to be an intense day. Who JAH bless no man curse!!! Next morning the sun was shinning and the weather was so sweet. The production people got things grooving early and the town woke up with a smile, knowing that the show was on and the party was about to begin. JAH is so wonderful every time. Got some time to chill in the morning, and enjoy a little of the local hospitality, very nice. Got to the site early in the evening, and got a good part of the opening local bands from La Paz and Pescadero ,
Acero Caliente, Jah Flash and La Komadre Sebastiana. They all make very nice music, good to dance and have a good time. The foreign part of the show started with Native Elements mashing up the place with full force riddim and sound. Native’s shows are always hot, always. Next, Baldread move the crowd with his sweet style and friendly attitude for almost an hour. Strong presence by the bay area artist, happening show, people loved it. Closing the night, Red I came in rocking, and rocked the crowd from start to finish. Everybody in the place was dancing, literally speaking , and the combination Native-Red was explosive. A couple of times the stage was invaded by dancing ladies, for the enjoyment of the fans. When the muzik gets ya, what are ya gona do? Move!!! Dressed all in jeans, and doing a very personal version of "Rebel Music", Red I dedicated the show to the spirit of the prophet Bob Marley, and his vision of unity amongst the people. This unitary spirit came to life for the final song of the show, with Red I inviting Baldread and Native Elements singers to join in a little jam session. It was great; the one song lasted like half an hour, with countless trading of the mic and an explosion of light and music. A fantastic way to close a show, a night and an experience south of the border, down the road, and the celebration of Mr. Marley’s legacy. Oneness and Love Always.

Red I
[Red Musik, 2003]

Review by Ted Boothroyd

A warning: do not attempt to use this album as background filler to your daily life. Try eating breakfast to the drum-and bass-driven “Chiqui Boom”, for example, and you’ll soon have corn flakes scattered all over the kitchen as you skank, prance and waggle your head, bootie and everything else on your body that’s capable of movement. Turning the volume down won’t help. Something about the energy level, dynamism, freshness, musicality of the thing, that’s my considered guess. So actually, the album is of limited value: excellent for listening and dancing and doing laundry, and that’s about all. Forget eating, reading, and power-napping to it. I’d be wary of the love-making too.

Red I brings his invigorating brand of reggae to us from Chile, where he has been a notable figure on TV and radio. Despite the strength of his own musical personality on this debut album, he is indebted to several other folks for helping out. Notable among them is Amlak Tafari, who lent his instrumental expertise, co-writing abilities and, on the delightful musical amalgamation disguised as a song called “Hola,” even his voice. The vocals are mostly in Spanish, no surprise, with lyrics that promote unity and understanding, and the album overall has a thoroughly Latin sensibility, with other welcome influences from all over.
I won’t go into detail, but you’ve been warned. The mere process of placing the CD in your player and carefully pressing start will endanger any passivity you may be prone to. This is assertive reggae. That doesn’t mean it’s all fast and furious, in fact it’s nicely varied in tempo; it does mean that every single song, every minute of every single song, will grab you. It’s an assured, forceful, potent work. I’m not saying you can’t possibly live without it, but I am saying that as long as we have to put up with acts of international aggression, this is the type to wish for.

Red I - Unidad

Red I has been bringing his unique brand of dancehall reggae to his native Chile since the early 1990s, when he was a founding member of the local band Nyabinghi. Now a solo artist, his debut album is a tasty mixture of roots, rockers and dancehall styles sung and chatted alternately 9and sometimes almost simultaneously) in English and Spanish, all of it informed by an explicitly Rastafarian social and political perspective. There are really no weak tracks here, but the sassy strut of "Salta y Manea" is especially fun; on the horticultural anthem "Smoke" Red I preaches the gospel of herb over a dark, mystical dubwise beat. (On "Unidad" he uses the same rhythm to deliver a different message in a different language.) Excellent.

Introduction / Presentacion English / Espanol

RED I

Coming out of Santiago, Chile, representing the Latino reggae massive, recording artist RED I is the founding member of the Chilean band Nyabinghi and former host of Chile’s Tiempo radio show "Reggae Sessions", Chilevision program "Extra Jovenes" and Via Exis program "Vibracion Reggae". Original source of reggae music and culture in his native Chile, RED I made his North American debut in the 1998 Spirit of Unity World Tour, which showcased today’s leading International reggae artists including; Maxi Priest, Shaggy and Steel Pulse. Currently based out of California, where he has graced the stage at North America’s largest reggae festival, People Production’s Reggae on the River, RED I prepares to launch his premier solo album.

Heavy drum and base infused with influences from cumbia, jive, rock and Jamaican rhythms are the foundation for RED I’s fiery lyrical deliverance. The message of love, freedom and unity cross all language and cultural boundaries on tracks boasting leading reggae producers from Jamaica, North and South America; including International reggae artist Amlak Tafari. In his first promotional appearance for his coming release, RED I returned to his homeland as Special Guest Artist for Chile’s 2001 Natural Mystic Festival held at Santiago’s Estadio Nacional. Joining forces with an all star line up of South American artists, The Wailers from Jamaica and 75,000 fans, RED I ignited a national reggae phenomenon while paying tribute to late, great, Bob Marley.

Music lovers worldwide, get ready for a celebration. "Who feels it knows it. This music has love, this music has peace. Wake up and live!" - Red I, from the single Chiqui Chiqui Boom Boom.

RED MUZIK presents its recording artist RED I

Coming out of Chile, Red I has recruited the collaboration of outstanding
upcoming Reggae producers to put together an impressive collection of
songs in his first album "Unidad" ( Unity). Amlak Tafari ( England/Jamaica)
co - wrote , played all instruments and sang in the heavier roots reggae tunes.
"Hola", a song for the ladies, where Red I and Amlak share lead vocals,
introducing themselves to the feminine audience. "Levantate"/"Get Up" are
stepping reggae invitations to get up and let the inner light lead the way. And
"Chiqui Boom", where a heavy, militant drum and bass dub serves as the base
for a celebration of universal brotherhood. Amlak also produced these tracks,
adding a special Birmingham flavor to the mix. Toho Saunders (USA) brought
in his digital dub vibes and co-wrote with Red I the remaining of the album. With
a variety of explosive riddims Toho provided the Kozmik vision needed to complete
this album on a higher ground. "Salta y Menea" (Jump Up and Shake), will make
everybody dance, anywhere in the world, with a spicy Caribbean flavor. "Boom Boom"
is a classic dancehall tune, inna Spanish stylee, good to release stress and put a
smile on your face.

"Marichiueu" gives respect to all native nations, represented by the native Mapuche tribe of Chile. "Unidad"/"Inity" is a dancing call to hear the voice of the people, and unite. "Smoke" (Fuma) is for the High Times selection of the year, or a smokers delight. "Move On" is a strong tune about keeping the faith in hard times and keeping Babylon at bay. "JAH Hizo Eso" (JAH Do That) is an updated free version in Spanish of the Prince Far I classic. Last, but by no means least, "Que La" is a galaxy on itself, with a hard and fast riddim, heavy on the drum , with a defiant call to legalize Irie living," fasten your seat belts, Ladies and gentlemen... !!". "Unidad" is a very clear statement by Red I about his vision of life and music, with a diverse and international group of collaborators, that brings together people from around the world to unite under one riddim.

By mixing the flavors of roots reggae, dancehall, funk, African percussion, rock guitar, drum and bass and electronic music, Red I has produced a sound and style of his own, but remaining heavily rooted in the reggae tradition. Chanting DJ style mainly in Spanish, and a good dose of English, Red I delivers his message of peace, unity, praises to JAH, and inner light with electric energy. Adding a little personal touch, "Unidad" also contains selected spoken pieces in between the music, where the artist shares reasonings and introduces the songs to the listener. Red I comes fresh and red hot with his solo debut "Unidad". Universal Love inna bilingual style...
