Today, it seems that radio and television simply select the next music stars - reaching into the mire of nearly 500,000 bands nationwide and plucking out a very fortunate few - it is almost as if every act is merely a lottery ticket to the big, big game. Rainmarket makes their own game out of the music business. The rules are simple: 1. Play what you love. 2. Have fun 3. Do it for yourself. 4. Watch everyone enjoy your work. With only one year invested, the Virginia locals have made quick work of the bar and club scene. Their poetic smart-rock sound is right at home in Eastern Virginia, the breeding ground for similar national artists such as Jason Mraz, Steely Dan, and Dave Matthews. Frontman Luke Taylor leads the band with smooth, impressive vocals and meaningful lyrics over original music that keeps fans singing their songs over and over and over again.
Having already moved to larger venues and stages, Rainmarket has appeared with Dave Matthews, Gavin DeGraw, Tonic, Billy Idol, and regional sensations Virginia Coalition and Carbon Leaf. And had it not been for the record-breaking rainy summer last year, they would have had many more big shows to their credit. In a single season, Rainmarket was rained out of shows with Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, David Gray, and Matchbox Twenty - each separately. It looks like they have the rain market cornered...hence, the name. With thousands of CDs distributed since the fall season, Rainmarket has certainly caught fire...
While targeting the college scene, Rainmarket has found that younger siblings (as well as parents) of fans take a liking to their music. With a three-generation demographic, it is easy to see why Rainmarket has shot to the top of everyone’s playlist. Rainmarket rushes ahead; the sky is the limit when you make your own lottery.
