Pizmon is the Jewish a cappella group of Columbia College, Barnard College, and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.

Over the past eighteen years Pizmon has traveled to hundreds of communities in the New York metropolitan area, across the country, and around the world, to offer Jewish music as a source of inspiration and community outreach.

During a typical academic year, Pizmon will perform for more than fifty audiences ranging from Jewish day schools, community wide concerts and homes for the elderly.

Through our music, we serve as a role model for a unified and active Jewish youth.

We are proud of our diversity, with members originating from nearly every imaginable background and Jewish denomination.

While Pizmon is a collegiate group our main focus is off campus, in the Jewish community.

History: Pizmon was started in 1986 by four members of the Columbia University community who sought to bring Jewish music to homes for the elderly.

Over the years we have grown to a group of fourteen members and expanded our audience.

Although the group changes every year as old members graduate and new members arrive, the spirit and energy of the group continues to grow.

The original spirit of the group remains, whether we are performing in front of a concert hall of a thousand or a small gathering at a Jewish Sunday school.

Over the years, Pizmon has visited Jewish communities abroad in Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Israel, England, France, Germany, and Canada.

Most recently in 2004, Pizmon visited the economically challenged Jewish communities of Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay spreading the joy and excitement of our brand of Jewish music to those who have suffered so much.

Within the United States, Pizmon has performed in large cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Miami, but has also performed in smaller locations such as Flemington, New Jersey and Norfolk, Virginia.

These trips are funded by our regional concerts and CD Sales.

Pizmon is a not-for-profit group.

All donations go towards subsidizing the group’s activities.
