The more I hear this, the more I love it. So many influences, from Mille Plateaux Click-Hop to Mole-era Residents to Hacker-era Clock DVA to Livonia period His Name is Alive. Really lovin’ this. And the fact that they sample James Coleman and Liz Tonne makes this exceptionally high class stuff.

The Pandas did a beautiful job fusing electro and ambient musical components on their debut recording "Pan De Monio". The collective created, sampled and re-sampled sounds to create 70 minutes worth of mesmerizing sonic landscapes, some instumental, some augmented singing and spoken word passages. Compared to some of the other projects that members have been engaged in, this work aims for a broad sound that moves and breathes in an amoebic fashion. The ensemble, though, avoids the biggest pitfall facing artists in the ambient field by keeping the mellowest passages from slipping off into the realm of background noise. Also in the plus category, The Pandas created indelible melodic hooks for their songs. Yet, in seeking an aural middle ground, The Pandas likewise avoided the middle of the road, making "Pan De Monio" an off-beat, but thoroughly engaging affair.
