"Kate is a splendid down-to-earth person; still she soars to the sky like a lark when she wants and needs to. Her music has a unique strong, sweet magic. When I hear her, I know she is singing because she wants to sing." -Jean Ritchie
"It’s less the bluegrassy/Celtic folk of her prior albums, and more the full-band singer-songwriter’s Americana. MacLeod’s mellifluous voice and literate lyrics are unchanged, as are her virtuostic fiddling, but the songs are more vibrant, less ethereal than before - one might even venture to call it rock." -Randy Harward, Salt Lake City Weekly
Kate MacLeod has released several albums, recorded with Celtic band Shanahy, done copious studio work, and layed numerous folk festivals across the country. She’s guest fiddled with The Chieftains, toured Europe, and had her music played on NPR. Kate MacLeod and the Pancakes’ "Breakfast" features Kate’s vocals, guitar, fiddle and harmonica, singer-guitarist Mark Hazel, bassist Barry Carter and drummer/percussionist Cliff Smith.
Kate grew up in teh Washington, D. C. area but has lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, for many years. Her musical background includes experience in classical, traditional American, bluegrass, and Celtic music. The Pancakes’ sound recalls the British folk-rock band, Fairport Convention, circa 1969. "We recorded the vocals live with everybody playing," MacLeod notes. "It’s the way recordings used to be made, and people seem to be gong back to that. I think people are getting tired of perfection. They’re ready for something that’s FUN to listen to."
