Lori Kelley & Twice Shy
In 1975 two teenaged sisters put their voices together and began to play guitars, singing the Eagles and Cat Stevens songs to while away the time in sunny Yuma, Arizona. Seventeen years later, they got the nerve to perform at open mike events in the northern Virginia area. With steely nerve they called themselves Twice Shy. The girls soon developed an enthusiastic following who encouraged them to perform more, so they began to play gigs throughout the Washington, DC, metro area, picking up a Lost Dog named Butch Nielson along the way. That was back in 1994, and two CDs later Twice Shy continues to create original music that can easily fall into the Folk, Alternative, Rock, and Country genres. They also play those cover songs that inspired them as teens, and they constantly add "any songs you can play on the guitar," to their repertoire, providing their listeners with tremendous vocal range and lilting harmonies sung as if from one voice. Lori Kelley and Twice Shy (Butch & Michelle Nielson) are currently working on a new CD, due for release in 2003. Their eclectic musical talents will have you smitten-and coming back for another show.
Lori’s songs were voted #1 in Northern Virginia Rhythm Magazine’s "Top 10 Songs," and "Country/Acoustic" categories. Also, Lori Kelley & Twice Shy was listed as the #1 "Top 20 Best Live Performances" throughout the 1990s. They perform in the Washington, DC, area. Lori also has shared the stage with Nashville hit songwriters Pat Alger (co-wrote "The Thunder Rolls" with Garth Brooks), Tia Sillers & Mark D. Sanders (Lee Ann Womack’s 2001 Song of the Year, "I Hope You Dance"), Mark Selby (co-wrote Dixie Chicks hit "There’s Your Trouble"), and Steve Key (Kathy Mattea’s "Record Time (33, 45, 78)").
