With her clear voice, Debbie Kanaan sings with a passion whether it’s the ballad that honors the victims of the World Trade Center disaster or the high power title song of Just One Night.
At the age of seven, Debbie produced a full cast backyard rendition of "Grease" that generated over $200 dollars for her Girl Scout Troop. That was only the beginning...
Debbie was born and raised in Toms River, New Jersey. Throughout her childhood, she took dancing lessons and performed in every school play. Winning local and state competitions brought Debbie’s artistic talents to the attention of a family friend with a professional music background.
Always a performer, Debbie jumped at the chance to record in the professional studio "just to see what she could do with her voice." There, Steve Lewis, the family friend and now President and CEO of Creative Records, Inc. found the voice he had been searching for to rejuvenate the professional music career he had put on hold years before. During the first few years, Debbie and Steve worked gradually toward building a professional relationship, while Debbie earned her bachelors degree in economics from Rutgers University.
In 1997, after writing and producing over 50 songs, Debbie and Steve were producing music to share with the world. During the past four years, Debbie has performed at over 30 events and showcased original songs specifically written for each celebration. She has performed for numerous benefit concerts, including the "Give Peace a Chance" benefit held at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank.
Adding to her latest credits, a song entitled "I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye" recorded by Debbie and written and produced by Steve, is climbing the charts on MP3.com, reaching the number 23 spot on the Pop/Rock charts overall. The proceeds from this song are being donated to relief funds assisting the families affected by the September 11th attacks.
Debbie was most recently a finalist in a David Foster competition for female vocalists (through the Tonos.com website). With only two days notice, Debbie and Steve made it into the finals for another Tonos challenge, writing and recording lyrics to music provided from the movie soundtrack of "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas."
Two of their original, untitled songs, commonly referred to as "The Birthday Song" and "The Wedding Song," written and performed by Debbie for her mother’s 50th Birthday celebration and a special friend’s wedding, have been performed for over 3,500 people so far, and the number keeps growing with requests generated through word-of-mouth.
Debbie has joined with Creative Records to release her first CD entitled "Just One Night" which will be released in March 2002.
Stay tuned...
