Julia Brown calls herself a singer-songwriter. But her debut album is anything but your typical singer-songwriter fare.

This first recording by the Richmond, Virginia native is a surprising blend of hooky pop, driving rock, smart lyric and eclectic arrangements. All the songs are washed in Julia’s powerful vocal stylings. She can roar and whisper instantly and easily - and often within the same song!

The album’s 10 tracks were all written by Brown, and produced by Christian Cassan - the producer behind 1999’s Minster Hill debut. The record was mastered by Eddy Schreyer, who has worked with artists such as Michael Penn, Jon Brion, and Fiona Apple.

Julia grew up on a variety of musical genres; her own musical tastes run the gamut. She’s an avid fan of Britpop’s best (Elvis Costello, David Bowie, XTC), old soul favorites (Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin) and classic songwriters (Michael Penn, Neil Finn, Ani DiFranco).

Julia brought all her influences to bear on her first album, adding a talent and ability that is hers alone.
