JT Archer (aka Joey Primo) was raised on a farm along the Rio Grande and became hooked on guitars when he was bed-ridden, and a friend gave him The Ventures " Mashed Potatoes and Gravy" album. JT learned his chops and played in various local bands through high school, most notably "Stanley and The Grass" and "The Grass" (See "From the Grass to the Outer Limits - The Goldust Records Story -1965-1969")
JT did session work and played in LA in the late 1960’s and toured the Midwest in the early 1970’s. In Tucson, he briefly teamed up with legendary guitarist Link Wray and began recording what later became JT’s "Canyon" LP (also on Goldust Records -1974).
JT continued to write and record through the 80’s and 90’s and his raw, self-produced "Who’s Watching" album is a snapshot of musical ideas spanning aliens, Bach, rock, jazz, country, and even the reggae feel of "I Don’t Care" whose theme is JT’s personal motto: "I like you like you are. I like me like I am ... I don’t care..." If you’ve ever had a bad day at the office, listen to "No News Is Good News" for a crumudgeon’s view on workplace rumors.
Who does JT sound like? That’s a hard one. He sounds like a bunch of nice guys. (Some say he is a bunch of nice guys!) JT likes all styles of music and his personal favorite artists include Van Morrison, Bill Champlin, Elvis Costello, and Bruce Springsteen as well as guitarists Russ Freeman, Robben Ford, Danny Gatton, and Jeff Golub.
If you can get your hands on one of JT’s albums, you will notice that not only does he produce, arrange, and write all his own material, but he also sings and plays most(if not all) of the parts! JT is an avid Mosrite guitar fan and has two Mosrite guitars and a Mosrite bass in addition to 12 other instruments. To check out his 1965 Ventures Model Mosrite visit his website.
