An extraordinary contributor to the music industry today is JERMAIN MAXWELL. This multi-talented R&B artist started enchanting audiences at the age of five in church. As a child he was always singing and dancing. He has always had the ability to retain melodies and lyrics very quickly. He is always working on honing his craft. Presently, he is creating new material and seeking progressive opportunities.
One might say he inherited his exceptional vocal skills. His mother is a singer and various other relatives are musically inclined. Vocally, he has been compared to the likes of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, both of whom he has been influenced by. However, he maintains his own melodic style. He is versatile, demonstrating great vocal control and a wide vocal range. What makes him unique is that he has recorded and released songs in the musical styles of R&B, Reggae, Dance and House. Furthermore, he entertains with a lot of expression, emotion and energy. Dance choreography is something you can definitely expect to see during his performances. JERMAIN’S talent does not stem from one source alone; he has danced in various groups, modeled and acted in theatre/film productions (Lot 1975 and The Gods Are Not To Blame).
In Spring 2003 over 20,000 people across Canada auditioned in the first Canadian Idol competition. In June 2003, after getting through six consecutive auditions, JERMAIN landed himself in the TOP 30 in the competition. In addition to the press and media coverage that he received, he performed at a New York Yankees/Toronto Blue Jays baseball game at the Skydome in Toronto. The game took place July 2003; there were 40,000 people in attendance. In 2000 he was on the same bill as soul singer, Jill Scott and rapper, Mos Def at the Toronto Urban Music Festival. He was then selected to be on the same bill as gospel artist, Hezekiah Walker at the Ottawa Urban Music Festival. In 1997 he performed as an opening act for hip-hop diva Lil’ Kim at the Shock Nightclub in Toronto. He was invited to perform at a Council meeting attended by the mayor of Toronto in 2000. In that same year, he was invited to perform at the Elimination of Racial Discrimination celebration in Toronto. All of the above have received media coverage. In addition, his voice has been broadcast over various radio shows like Toronto’s 93.5FM and Montreal’s 103.7FM and the Internet. Aside from his work in Canada, he has traveled to various parts the United States of America and the Caribbean to perform, promote and network.
This vocalist is no beginner when it comes to recording; he has had several recording projects and releases. His current singles, "Tha Block" and "No Girl" are in rotation on various radio programs. He was featured, along with Ann Curless of Expose fame, on a remake of the disco classic "Heaven Knows", which was released in 2000 on Waako Records internationally and can be purchased over the Internet. In the summer of 1998, another single titled, "What Went Wrong?" was released in Canada. It is the first track on the ’Magnum Opus’ CD compilation put together by Krescent Records. The single has been repeatedly featured on the television show Traders, and has received radio and club play. In 1995 a promotional CD single titled, "I Can’t Stop" was released in Canada.
