Who the heck is The Incredible Din?
The Incredible Din is a rock band out of Livermore, California, made up of lead singer/guitarist Marc Laspina, bassist Jason Pettibone and drummer Marc Hughes. They pool their vast collective musical influences from all across the musical map, ranging from Jimi Hendrix, Rush, U2, Oingo Boingo, The Police, Jethro Tull and Frank Zappa to name just a few. The Incredible Din’s sound has a classic foundation to it, giving it a fresh, bright newness while invoking a timeless quality. This becomes obvious when one learns the meaning behind the songs. That is where the resonation with the listener turns into a serious love for this band.
Long-time friends, Laspina and Pettibone have been playing together since age 14, having met a couple of years earlier in school. In 1996, with the addition of Hughes, the three became Men Not Gods, a progressive alternative power trio. After 4-years and an EP recording they disbanded only to be reborn in 2002 as The Incredible Din.
With life experiences and wisdom now under their belts, the trio recorded a self/produced full length album. The record takes you on a journey of self-discovery filled with angst and hope, anger and love, forgiveness and acceptance. The album is a true representation of what fans hear on-stage when Laspina’s raw, emotional energy reaches out to the audience. On the Spanish influenced "If You’re Alone", his singing fills you with yearning to be loved. On the quirky "Scrambled Eggs" a mixture of faith and the desire to be true to yourself plays through both vocals and guitar. On the edgy "More than Money" you feel the harsh judgment handed to those who’ve given in to materialism. Hughes’ drumming is characterized by an intense energy, like a caged tiger pacing behind the bars of its cell, waiting for an opportunity to break out. Pettibone is the quiet foil to his passionate band mates. His baselines are creative, intricate and groove oriented, creating a bridge between Laspina’s tower of passion and Hughes’ controlled fury.
The Incredible Din has that indescribable something that makes their performances stand out from other rock bands. Perhaps it’s the comfort and command of one’s instrument that can only come with over 15 years of playing. Perhaps it’s the close friendship between the three that reaches out beyond the professional band relationship. Perhaps it is the passion and dedication with which they perform the music they love. Whatever it is, you feel it when you see The Incredible Din perform on-stage.
The band is currently continuing to play clubs in the San Francisco bay area with plans of getting radio airplay. Eventually The Incredible Din would like to be signed to a record label and record one after another full-length album. While of course sipping margaritas under the palm trees...
