27 Years is a high energy rock/pop band based in the Twin Cities. From the powerful rock ballad "Snowing in Minnesota" to the fast moving "Philophobia", 27 Years displays impressive depth in their songwriting, musicianship, and showmanship. 27 Years brings a passion for performing music to the new generation.
It started with a vision by singer/guitarist Lantz H. Dale and keyboardist Derek Edmondson in the summer of 2006. Bored with the 'modern' rock sound, they started to experiment with a raw guitars, hard driving drums, modern synths, and lyrics that painted brilliant imagery. Countless hours were spent locked inside a St. Paul artist loft writing, recording and eventually discovering the seemingly elusive sound that, until then, only existed in their heads. Next, they went into the studio with local producer John Wright (Loud Folk Records) who brought the music to life and pushed the sound to its full potential. The record was mixed by award winning producer/engineer Luke Fredrickson. Their highly anticipated debut album, “July Skies”, was released early 2008.
Lantz, Derek, Buz (bass) and Erik Lunna (drums) met at Mcnally Smith College of Music. After graduation they remained close friends yet went their separate ways. Lantz, Derek and Erik stayed in the Twin Cities and performed with various high profile local acts (The Halloways, Retrophonic, Krush, Tim Mahoney, Ross William Perry, and The Wild Colonial Bhoys). Buz went to Berklee College of Music in Boston and proceeded to hit the east coast scene with several touring acts. After a few years of playing on the road Lantz and Derek contacted Buzby. Buz decided to return to Minnesota bringing his good friend Scott Bauer (guitar) with him. Friends were reunited, new friendships were made and 27 Years was formed.
The band is looking to share their sound in one of the best local music scenes in the country. They have played a spread of venues around the regional area including the Bar Fly, Pickle Park, POV's, Station 4, and Epic (formally known as the Quest). The band may be named after their fallen idols but even Jim Morrison once said “Each generation wants new symbols, new people, new names. They want to divorce themselves from their predecessors.” 27 Years hopes to be and do just that.
