Jimmy Dykann Bio
Jimmy Dykann had his musical beginnings playing open mic nights in the folk clubs around Southern California in the late 1960's. He grew up in Pasadena, and spent early stage time as a teenager at the Ice House, playing songs between would be stand up comedians and magicians. Early influences included Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkle and story telling singers like Gordon Lightfoot, Steve Gillette and Jim Croce.
In 1972 Jimmy came to Colorado which began a thirty year infatuation with the stories of people of the west, past and present, and the Rocky Mountain region. The mid seventies were spent playing in and out of Austin, Texas with bands and as a solo act, and always writing songs.
The late seventies found Jimmy Dykann back in southern California teamed up with another singer/songwriter, Haden Gregg, whom he'd met and played with in Colorado. They recorded an album of original material with top session players like Russ Kunkle (James Taylor, Jackson Browne), Steve Lukather (Toto) and Danny Kortchmar (Taylor, Don Henley). It was an international release, and came out on Handshake Records, a subsidiary of Columbia/Sony, in 1981 as Night Plane. (They continue to play together as a duo and as a band on occasion.
The re-release of that album is available on the web at https://www.tradebit.com).
In the mid-eighties Jimmy again went solo, and back to Colorado, and began opening shows throughout the state for Jimmy Buffet, Jerry Jeff Walker, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Delbert McClinton, and others.
Jimmy Dykann keeps a busy schedule of private and public appearances and is currently promoting his newest release Colorado : History in Song, a group of story songs about Colorado.

This preview CD contains (3) songs from the larger work of (12) songs. The stories travel from the famous Horace Tabor, a rags to riches to rags saga; to the infamous fiddle wielding Widow Collins of Rifle, Colorado. It concludes with a waltzing tribute to "Lady Bountiful", the beautiful and generous wife of mining magnate John Osgood, builder of Cleveholm Manor, better known as the Redstone Castle.
Other songs in the larger collection explore the building of the railroads through Colorado, a mining disaster, a little town plowed under by a highway, and the exploits of that gambler, gun slinging, dentist, Doc Holiday.
