Welcome, Giggle fan. At last, you've arrived. You are only a few clicks away from ordering the single greatest achievement in the history of mankind.
You might say, "but the greatest achievement in the history of mankind was the moon landing, or...or the invention of LSD, or the creation of a complex, symbol-rich language.
But you'd be wrong.
It's this. The music contained on "Chutes & Ladders" was discovered last year by four young men in Los Angeles. Since 1998 they'd been recording and playing live under the name "The Cosmic Giggle". After independently releasing three LPs, and upon rehearsal for their fourth, with instruments electrified, the room abuzz, a new sound wriggled free through their hands. Unleashed, the sound was a wild, unpredictable beast. But the Cosmic Giggle tamed it, stroked it, and ultimately captured it on tape.
That tape became a CD. And that CD is, like we said, only clicks away.
"BUT WHAT KIND OF MUSIC IS IT???"
It's bouncy, weavy, unpredictable rock that angles into jazz territory but stays anchored by its allegiance to pop. Instantly familiar and yet entirely unconventional, the Giggle's corkscrew love songs stay held together by the soulful, playful, hopeful baritone of song-smith Tom Jackson. Lyrically, their music tackles big themes, but always with a keen sense of the absurd. It's silly. It's edgy. It's unlike anything else. And it's the best thing that has ever happened. Period.
"I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BAND!!!"
What are you, a stalker? Already? Okaaaay. Four guys, all relatively handsome, and all from San Jose, California. Alan Chang, beyond his Giggle duties as the greatest keyboard master of all time, is also the musical director in standards-superstar Michael Bublé's big band. Greg McFall plays a five string bass and sings the crazy harmonies you'll hear all over this record. He sings lead on "On My Way". Track #6. Drummer Brad Rañola has astonished live audiences with his uncanny likeness to the smiling Buddha. And Tom Jackson's most captivating feature is his caterpillar-thick eyebrows that he knits furiously back and forth on stage. The four men currently reside in and around Los Angeles.
