Album Description
Jazz Link Enterprises' partners, Jude Hibler and Dale Bruning, prepare and present selections of one of the Great Composers of the modern world. In this case, composer Harry Warren receives their treatment, which includes vignette narrations researched and spoken by Ms. Hibler, with imaginative new arrangements by guitarist Dale Bruning.
Bruning's quartet consists of the facile bassist Michael Moore with reedman Rich Chiaraluce and drummer Paul Romaine completing the foursome.
From Jazz Journal International magazine by Bruce Crowther:
'One of the master craftsmen of jazz guitar and a distinguished teacher -- demonstrates that his gifts are unmarred. This CD, along with their Timeless Music of Harold Arlen CD, are very entertaining and musically of the very highest order.'
Dale Bruning Bio
guitar
A native of Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Dale Bruning has been playing professionally since the age of 14. In the 1950s and early '60s, he worked in the east with such people as Specs Wright, Larry McKenna, Carol Sloane, Billy Bean, and Art Van Damme.
A move to Denver, Colorado in 1964 has kept him there to the present. He has worked with Red Norvo, Jim Hall, Erroll Garner, Dizzy Gillespie, Marian McPartland, Michael Moore, Terry Clarke, Mark Patterson, Ken Peplowski, Dave McKenna, John Allred, Chet Baker, Jake Hanna, Gus Johnson, Bill Frisell, Ron Miles, Eric Gunnison, Mark Simon, Paul Romaine, Rich Chiaraluce, Richard Grossman, Bruno Carr and Ron Washington.
Mr. Bruning has authored The Dale Bruning Jazz Guitar Series: Volume I - Phrasing & Articulation and his second and third volumes are scheduled to be released in late 2003 or early 2004 through JLE Publishing Company. He is one of the most significant players and educators in the history of the guitar.
Bill Evans once stated that the purpose of music is to enrich. Dale Bruning has taken this to heart. His playing demonstrates the sensitivity and brillance long associated with those musicians who are more interested in making the best music, rather than making themselves look the "best." Consequently, and by that definition, he truly is one of the best musicians in the world today.
Jude Hibler Bio
Writer
Originally from Beaverton, Oregon, Ms. Hibler founded Jazz Link magazine in 1988 in San Diego. Since that time, she has interviewed and photographed dozens of the leading jazz musicians and people affliated with jazz in the world. She has written stories about such artists as Dave Brubeck, Tony Bennett, Peggy Lee, Gerald Wiggins, Mike Wofford, Kenny Burrell, Marian McPartland, Harold Land, Joe Pass, Charles McPherson, James Moody and many others.
Leonard Feather asked her to be a contributing writer to his Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz (© 1999).
Since 1995, he has been in partnership with Jazz Link Enterprises Owner, writer Jude Hibler. Together, they created the JLE CD label. They also prepare and present JLE Narrative Theme Concerts. They base their concerts around the music of a Great Songwriter, such as Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and so on. Dale then selects the music and writes original arrangements for his various-sized ensembles.
Ms. Hibler researches the composer and the songs for the concert, writes a script, and tells these antecdotal stories throughout the concert performance. The JLE partners have recorded and released two of their Timeless Music Series on their label. The Timeless Music of Harold Arlen and The Timeless Music of Harry Warren - both of which are found at http://www.jazzlinkenterprises.com, along with Mr. Bruning's other CDs.
